How to get from Denmark to Cebu

Flying from Copenhagen Airport will be the best and most comfortable choice, using Qatar Airways: https://www.qatarairways.com. Since our wedding date is November 28, 2026, we highly recommend arriving in Carcar City a few days earlier to rest and adjust.

FLIGHT ROUTE:
Copenhagen (Denmark)   Doha (Qatar)  → Cebu (Philippines)
Total travel time: 24+ hours (including layovers)
Time difference: Cebu is +7 hours ahead of Denmark in November

While you are at Doha, you will have a layover for around 3-4 hours. The airport has a lot of good options to do things, but I do recommend finding a lounge (Lounge allows for more private time, food, shower and a very pleasant wait)
https://www.qatarairways.com/en/lounges
Once you arrive at Cebu, the airport is very small, and all you need to do is show your passport and go through immigration. Once cleared, you can find ATMs inside the terminal to withdraw money.
Money & Currency

The currency in the Philippines is Pesos (PHP) and cash is king here. Especially in the provincial areas you need cash on you.

CURRENCY CONVERSION:
100 DKK equals to around 900 PHP
100 NOK equals to around 550 PHP

WITHDRAWING MONEY:
It's possible to withdraw money from ATMs. It's best to use:
  • 7-Eleven
  • BDO  (Banco de Oro)
  • BPI (Bank of the Philippine Islands)

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • There is a 250 PHP ATM surcharge per withdrawal + your own bank might charge up towards 50 kr. Just be aware!
  • It's only possible to withdraw around 10,000 PHP every time.
  • Many stores, including 7-Eleven, do NOT accept cards as payment (only malls like SM City and selected restaurants).
  • Some terminals in the malls might reject foreign debit cards, so make sure to specify that it has to be BDO or Metrobank terminals and  that you are using a Mastercard or Visa card (they require an ID if you are using a credit card).
  • To get an idea of what things cost here, you can expect to use around 1,000 PHP a day on food per person.
  • You would need to get an Airbnb, and they cost roughly between 1,500 php to around 3,000 php per night (double room) - They also contain air conditioning, WiFi, and a kitchen.
  • Always carry coins (1 PHP, 5 PHP, 10 PHP, 20 PHP) and small bills for convenience (50 PHP, 100 PHP, 200 PHP). HERE IS A GUIDE
Accommodation

Since you most likely will arrive at night in Cebu, it's HIGHLY recommended to book an Airbnb close to the airport. We’ve compiled a list of rooms at Amani Grand Resort Residences, a place we’ve personally stayed at several times and can recommend. It’s a safe, comfortable, and convenient location, only 7 minutes by car from the airport, with:
  • 2 minutes’ walk to a convenience store:
  • 6 minutes’ walk to nearby restaurants
  • 10 minutes’ walk to a grocery mall
  • Easy Grab access for rides to the Cebu South Bus Terminal
Amani Grand is ideal for a smooth arrival before continuing your trip to Carcar City. You can find the collection here: Amani Grand Resort Residences Listings

Transportation

Public transportation is probably not the best option as a white person, so before the trip we recommend installing and registering for an app called Grab. It works like Uber,

Upon arrival at the airport (MCIA) connect to the free airport Wi-Fi, then add your card as a payment method in the Grab app. Card registration usually succeeds once you are already in the country. For reference, we tested a ride from the airport to Amani Grand Resort Residences, and it cost around ₱120.

If no Grab drivers are available, you may take a taxi from the airport. Please take note of the following to ensure a fair ride:

  • Inform the driver that your destination is Amani Grand Resort Residences, Matumbo–Pusok, or simply show the location on Google Maps.

  • The taxi must use the meter. Do not agree to any fixed-price offer. If a driver insists, decline and choose another taxi

  • There are many taxis available at the airport. If a driver seems pushy, simply move on to the next one.

Sometimes, a man may approach you and grab your luggage, appearing to “help” you get a taxi. In reality, these individuals are often directing passengers to taxis at the back of the queue, skipping the proper order. While these taxis are still part of the official line, this practice is unfair and unnecessary. Do not allow anyone to handle or drag your luggage. Keep your belongings with you and proceed directly to the taxis in the main queue

In the designated taxi queue. A security guard will hand you a small slip of paper containing the taxi’s details. Keep this receipt, as it serves as a record of the vehicle and driver in case you leave something behind.

OBS! it's important to know that you can only use Grab in the city, not in the province.

Travel Reminders

  • If you wish, you may purchase a SIM card at the airport, as free Wi-Fi is not always available everywhere. We recommend buying a Smart SIM card, as it generally offers better coverage in provincial areas. Please note that SIM cards must be registered using your passport; staff at the booth can assist you with this.
  • Power outlets are Type A/B, 220V so make sure to bring an adapter.

  • Tap water isn’t drinkable, use bottled water.

  • English is widely spoken.

  • Dress for tropical weather. while November is considered a rainy season in the Philippines, still bring your sunscreen and umbrella and wear long sleeves (trust me).
